Westchester Business Making Seniors Upper Class
One area business is making sure the senior citizens of Westchester are receiving the Upper Class treatment.
The Upper Class, a 10-year-old, family-owned and operated company, is keeping seniors busy throughout Westchester. The company, founded by the Lawer family, offers bus tours, overnight trips, day trips and activities for seniors of all ages.
With about 200 trips in the past year, the Upper Class has served thousands of seniors over the past decade, according to Brooke Lawer, marketing director of The Upper Class and a New Rochelle resident.
Catering to the 55-plus crowd, the trips and tours include a visit to West Point Military Academy, outings to Broadway shows, daycations around New York and multi-day trips, such as Cape Cod, Maine, Niagra Falls and Nashville.
"That’s what we want, we want them out there," Lawer said. "Some go on 30 trips a year with us."
The Upper Class helps seniors stay busy by providing a "one-stop shopping" experience.
"People want to do these things but it can be overwhelming for them," the New Rochelle resident said. "We do all the planning and it takes all of that hassle and anxiety out of somebody’s planning process…(there are) no worries about picking up tickets, parking or paying the tolls or dinner reservations."
Grandmother Lawer helped with the initial ideas in the early years, before she passed away two years ago, Brooke Lawer said.
"Every trip we design is measured against what we learned from my grandmother," the marketing director said. "Are there too many stairs? Are acoustics good? We make (sure the trip) is custom to this age group. They want to enjoy it, so we design trips to meet those requirements."
